Prada
The history of Prada begins in 1913, when the brothers Mario and Martino Prada opened a boutique in Milan, in the Duomo gallery. From the window, you can glimpse suitcases, trunks, travel bags, evening bags, walking sticks and jewelery boxes. A variety of items that will lead the small boutique to be known in noble circles in just six years.
In 1919, at the end of the First World War, the shop became the official supplier of the royal house of Savoy. A role of great prestige, which will quickly lead the Prada Brothers to have a very broad portfolio of clients made up of large Milanese, but also European, families. Until it became a point of reference for national and international fashion for leather accessories.
Mario Prada, Catholic Action activist, brings secret documents to Don Luigi Sturzo, persecuted by fascists. This is why bags at the beginning of the business are made with a series of secret compartments, designed to store documents that were not meant to be found.
Success returned and was amplified in 1977, when the company passed into the hands of Mario's niece, Miuccia. Graduated in Political Science from the State University of Milan, after having fought for women's rights in Milan in the 1970s, Miuccia transformed the company into a global luxury giant. The first fashion show arrived in 1988 and in 1992 Miu Miu was born, the brand with which Miuccia will distribute very experimental and modern women's clothing, aimed at a young audience. The theme is always the same: revolution and subversion of the rules.
