Cartier was founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis Cartier, it became particularly famous in 1856, when Princess Matilde, niece of Napoleon I and cousin of Emperor Napoleon III made her first purchases from Cartier. In 1859, Empress Eugenie became a customer of the boutique and began the tradition of kings, queens and emperors that would characterize the entire history of the Maison.
The Maison is today considered one of the most prestigious jewelery manufacturers in the world, as well as the main reference in the sector of the most authentic and timeless luxury.
Louis Cartier created his first "optical device" in 1887 for the Princess of Essling: the creation of these lorgnettes (a particular type of spectacles with a stem handle, fashionable at the beginning of the 20th century among wealthy women) in shell of tortoiseshell and decorated with diamonds allowed Louis to be recognized as one of the first “optician-artists”.
Only in 1983 did Cartier officially launch its first line of glasses consisting of the "Must" and "Vendome" models in the two versions "Louis Cartier" and "Santos", organizing an extravagant party led by Elton John.
With its sunglasses frames, Cartier stands out for the exceptional mastery of exclusive artisan techniques with which it creates each individual creation.
